It is generally agreed that Primary Immunodeficiency (PID) is under-diagnosed in most countries and many medical centres care for very few patients with a diagnosed immunodeficiency.1, 2
There are a number of campaigns, both national and global, involving opinion leaders, clinicians and patient groups that are committed to increasing the awareness of PID worldwide. Binding Site supports these campaigns and works with PID groups in many countries.
Guidelines for diagnostic protocols for PID have been proposed3,4,5 based on expert opinion. The protocols start with the clinical presentation of the patient and provide a guide through the initial diagnosis followed by differential diagnosis of deficiencies in the humoral, cellular and phagocytic defences of the immune system.
